Personal Liability - what's covered

Personal liability insurance covers accidental death, bodily injury, or illness of another person, or for accidental loss or damage to property belonging to another person arising out of negligence by yourself or your immediate family members. It also covers your legal fees and damages in case the affected party sues you.​

What's NOT covered

  • Claims related to your motor vehicle, caravan, trailer, watercraft or aircraft

  • Intentional damage

  • Contractual liabilities

  • Criminal prosecution

  • Compensation payable to your domestic workers or other family members living with you

  • Loss or damage to property in your custody and control that belongs to a third party

  • Legal liability arising out of your profession, business or employment

Personal liability - how to claim

  • Notify us as soon as possible after an event in which you were involved and that may give rise to a claim.

  • Advise the third party to seek immediate medical attention, if necessary.

  • Avoid and prevent any further aggravation of the incident.

  • Make a photographic or videographic record of what happened as well as witness statements regarding the conditions at the time of the incident and that may have contributed to the incident.

  • Gather and preserve other relevant information or evidence.

  • When you receive any documentation from the third party, please submit it to us immediately.

  • Take care not to prejudice your claim by admitting liability or negotiating a settlement with the third party directly.​
